Employers Seeking Employees with Language Skills, Degrees, and Work Experience Welcome New BYU Program

Brigham Young University has unveiled its cutting-edge new system for matching BYU alumni with potential employers. Named BYU ApplicantSearch™, the program allows BYU alums to go online, create a profile of their job-related skills, education, language facility, and geographic preferences, and then complete a scientific assessment designed to match their thinking styles, behavioral characteristics, and occupational interests with specific jobs offered by employers in the system. The pool this creates is a highly selected group, with a very desirable combination of education, skills, and work experience.

Using the system, employers will create a profile of the requirements for the job and a success pattern based on their top performers currently in the position. ApplicantSearch™ will then search for candidates, according to their criteria for each job, and produce a list of candidates who have those characteristics and who also match the pattern for success in the job. Extensive research has shown that candidates who match the job at a high level tend to produce more in their work, enjoy the job more, and stay on the job longer. Both employer and employee are expected to benefit from this system. Employers will have a variety of options for participation, depending on their levels of use.

Launched in February, the program has also met with very good response from both alumni (over 5,400 participants in the system already) and from employers across the nation and overseas. Many employers from the Wasatch Front, facing unemployment levels at historic lows, see the effort as a real resource in their battle against a scarcity of qualified candidates for their jobs.

For employers with international operations, BYU alums are of special interest because of their very high level of foreign language training and fluency, combined with their other talents and educational background.
